Key responsibilities
The successful Assistant Headteacher will be responsible for:
  • 1 day per week class teaching (likely within EYFS)
  • Strategic lead for EYFS, including line management of the EYFS Phase Leader
  • Phase Leader for Year 1 and Year 2, driving high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes
  • OPAL Play Working Party lead (Curriculum Link), supporting an engaging and purposeful play offer
  • Interim Whole School Behaviour Lead (maternity cover), embedding consistent expectations and routines
  • Interim Pupil Premium Lead (maternity cover), ensuring evidence-informed strategy and impact
  • Interim Whole School Quality Assurance Lead (maternity cover), strengthening teaching and learning through robust QA systems
  • Educational Visits Co-ordinator (EVC), ensuring safe, enriching and well-led visits
  • EYFS and KS1 CPD Lead, planning and delivering staff development that improves practice
  • Interim lead for statutory assessments in EYFS and Year 1 (maternity cover), ensuring accuracy, readiness and confidence across the phase
What we’re looking for
This role will suit a leader who can confidently operate at senior level while remaining highly present in classrooms. You should be:
  • An experienced primary leader with strong understanding of EYFS and KS1
  • Confident line managing colleagues and driving improvement through coaching and accountability
  • Clear, calm and consistent in your approach to behaviour and positive school culture
  • Analytical and impact-driven, with the ability to lead Pupil Premium strategy effectively
  • Organised and solution-focused, able to manage multiple priorities and statutory deadlines
  • Committed to inclusive practice and raising outcomes for all pupils
Why consider this opportunity?
  • A genuine senior leadership post with meaningful strategic influence
  • A strong EYFS and KS1 focus, ideal for leaders passionate about early education
  • A supportive environment where leadership is visible, practical and child-centred
  • The chance to lead key whole-school priorities and make measurable impact
Safeguarding
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Appointment will be subject to enhanced DBS checks, satisfactory references and relevant pre-employment checks.
