We are seeking a passionate and driven Core Subject Academic Mentor to join a vibrant, Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Barking & Dagenham. This school is known for its high standards in behaviour management, strong academic focus, and excellent accessibility via public transport.

Core Subject Academic Mentor – Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver targeted academic support to small groups of high-attaining students

  • Support the delivery of the curriculum in core subjects (Maths, English, or Science)

  • Help raise attainment and academic confidence across KS3 and KS4

  • Work closely with subject teachers to identify pupil needs and plan interventions

  • Implement school-wide behaviour expectations and support SEND students

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents, and staff

  • Track progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff

  • Demonstrate a clear desire to move into a teaching role

 

Core Subject Academic Mentor – Person Specification:

  • 1:1 degree in a core subject from a top 20 UK university

  • Confident, proactive, and engaging approach in the classroom

  • Ability to manage behaviour positively and professionally

  • Flexible and adaptable team player

  • Interest in pursuing a future teaching qualification

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with parents and carers

  • Located in or able to commute to Barking & Dagenham
