Are you an ambitious English Graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a secondary school setting before embarking on teacher training?

A high-achieving, inclusive secondary school in West London is looking for a well-educated English Graduate to join their supportive team as an Academic Support Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to work directly with students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within the English Department, supporting them to achieve their full academic potential.

In this role, you’ll work closely with English Teachers, Heads of Department, and pastoral staff to deliver targeted interventions. This includes 1:1 support and small group tuition sessions focused on literacy, essay writing, exam preparation, and comprehension skills.

This is the ideal role for an aspiring English Teacher who is eager to build their classroom experience ahead of a PGCE or teacher training programme in 2025.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Providing focused academic support to students in Years 7–11
  • Leading 1:1 and small group tuition sessions within the English Department
  • Assisting with curriculum delivery, marking and lesson preparation
  • Collaborating with teaching and pastoral staff to identify and support students who need additional help
  • Helping to raise attainment and close learning gaps, particularly in reading and writing
What we’re looking for:
  • A recent English graduate from a top university
  • A genuine passion for education and a desire to pursue a career in teaching
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident, proactive, and able to build strong relationships with students and staff
  • Previous experience working with young people (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is highly desirable
Why join this school?
  • Join a dedicated and experienced English Department with a strong track record of student success
  • Gain invaluable classroom experience in a high-performing, well-structured school
  • Excellent location in West London with strong transport links
