Pay: £90 to £100 per day (PAYE)

A specialist SEN school in Islington is seeking a Speech and Language Assistant to support pupils with complex communication needs. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience using Makaton, PECS and British Sign Language (BSL), looking to build long-term experience within a specialist setting.

A specialist SEN school in Islington is seeking a Speech and Language Assistant to support pupils with complex communication needs. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience using Makaton, PECS and British Sign Language (BSL), looking to build long-term experience within a specialist setting.
Speech and Language Assistant (SEN) – The Role
- Support pupils with severe and complex communication needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Use Makaton, PECS and BSL daily to support expressive and receptive communication
- Assist in delivering speech and language interventions set by therapists and SEN professionals
- Support pupils with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and additional learning needs
- Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, SENCOs and specialist teaching staff
- Encourage communication, engagement and independence across the school day
- A graduate in Linguistics, Psychology, Education or a related field, or an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant
- Proven experience using Makaton, PECS and/or BSL in an SEN or specialist school setting
- Clear ambition to progress into Speech and Language Therapy or specialist SEN roles
- Calm, resilient and confident supporting pupils with complex needs
- Strong communication skills and a child-centred approach
- Hands-on experience in a specialist SEN environment
- Direct exposure to therapist-led interventions and multidisciplinary working
- Long-term, full-time role with competitive PAYE pay
- Excellent preparation for postgraduate study or professional therapy training
