BSL Tutor - What the School Offers

BSL Tutor - What the Role Involves
  • Delivering BSL tuition (1:1 and/or small groups) to pupils with hearing impairment or communication needs
  • Supporting pupils in mainstream and specialist settings to access the curriculum through BSL communication and adaptations
  • Working with class teachers, SEND team, and therapists to plan, assess and monitor pupil progress in communication outcomes
  • Modelling good practice in BSL across the school and contributing to communication inclusion strategy
  • Helping to develop resources and visual supports; adapting the learning environment for accessibility
 
BSL Tutor - What the School is Looking For
We are seeking a tutor who has:
  • A First-Class or 2:1 degree from a top 30 UK university (preferably in BSL, Deaf Studies, Education or a related subject)
  • Prior child-centred experience; working with or tutoring pupils with SEND, or in inclusive/communication environments is highly valued
  • Proactive, compassionate, committed attitude; excellent communication skills; willingness to learn and adapt continuously
  • Patience, resilience, creativity, and the drive to support and celebrate progress in all pupils

BSL Tutor - Salary and Contract Info
  • SEN TA / BSL Tutor roles: £444 per week, pro rata, term-time only
  • Full-time, long-term contract from September-July, term-time only
  • Potential for future teacher training or extended contracts following a successful placement
