Modern Languages Graduate Academic Support Assistant | West London Secondary School | Pre-PGCE Opportunity

Start Date: September 2025

Are you a recent Modern Languages graduate considering a future in teaching? Are you eager to gain hands-on, school-based experience before embarking on a teacher training programme?

A high-performing secondary school in West London is seeking a passionate and motivated Spanish and French graduate to join their team as an Academic Support Assistant. This is a brilliant opportunity to support students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 within the MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) Department, building valuable experience in a dynamic and supportive school setting.

Working alongside subject teachers, the Head of Languages, and pastoral leaders, you will deliver tailored academic interventions—including 1:1 and small group support—to boost students’ language skills, build confidence in speaking and writing, and help raise attainment across Spanish and French.

This role is ideal for a Modern Languages graduate planning to begin a PGCE or other teacher training pathway in 2025.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic support to students in Spanish and/or French across KS3 and KS4
  • Deliver focused 1:1 and small group tuition to strengthen language proficiency and exam preparation
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to identify and address learning needs
  • Assist with the preparation of lesson materials and track student progress
Candidate Profile:
  • A recent graduate in Spanish and/or French from a top university
  • Genuinely passionate about languages and pursuing a career in education
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in explaining language concepts clearly
  • Reliable, adaptable, and a proactive team player
  • Experience working with young people (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is highly desirable
The School Offers:
  • A well-resourced MFL Department with experienced and supportive staff
  • A welcoming school culture focused on academic excellence and personal growth
  • Professional development opportunities and mentoring support
  • A fantastic West London location with excellent transport links
